AI & SEO Glossary – EWR Digital

The language of search has changed. Google isn’t just serving ten blue links anymore, and buyers aren’t just scrolling — they’re asking ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity for the answer. If you don’t shape how your company is defined inside those systems, someone else will.

That’s why we built this glossary. It’s not a dictionary to skim once and forget. It’s the working reference we use with clients to align teams, sharpen strategies, and make sure marketing and growth conversations don’t get lost in jargon.

Here you’ll find quick, plain-English definitions of the terms that matter — from AI SEO and Semantic SEO to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and AI Visibility. Each entry explains what it means, why it matters now, and where it connects to real campaigns.

Use this page when you need a fast pulse check. Dive into the individual entries when you’re ready for the playbooks, frameworks, and step-by-step guidance.

“Just as lighthouses once guided ships safely through fog, your content must beam clear signals across Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Copilot—because in the age of AI, visibility is navigation.” – Matthew Bertram, Lead Strategist at EWR Digital

Because in the age of AI search, it’s simple: if buyers are asking the question, you should be the answer.

“These terms were defined by Matthew Bertram, author of the LLM Visibility®.

Domain Authority (DA)

A third-party predictive metric built by Moz, scored 0–100 on a logarithmic scale, that estimates how likely a whole domain is to rank. It is not a Google ranking factor and Google does not publish or use it, it is a vendor’s model of the link graph, useful for comparing candidate sites against each other and nothing more.

What clients ask

Where do I actually find this number?

It depends whose metric you mean, and the field labels differ by tool. In Ahrefs the domain-level figure is DomainRating. The free MOZ SEO toolbar shows Moz’s own DA and PA directly against each result of a Google search, which is the fastest way to compare a whole SERP at once.

Is a higher number always the better link?

No. Authority is one of five factors we weigh, and relevance gates the rest. A high-authority site in an unrelated industry can pass very little to you.

Page Authority (PA)

The same Moz metric applied to a single page rather than the whole domain: a 0–100 logarithmic prediction of that one page’s ranking strength. Again a vendor estimate, not a Google signal.

What clients ask

Why does the page matter if the domain is strong?

Because the authority of the specific linking page is what passes to yours. A strong page on an ordinary site can be worth more than a neglected page on a famous one.

Where do I find it?

In Ahrefs it appears as UR (URLRating). In the MOZ toolbar it sits next to DA on every search result.
